28 days down.. 23 days to go ! (I started this last week.. sorry didnt have a chance to finish until now)
I haven't blogged for awhile. I have some catching up to do...
The weekend of June 4th-5th we stayed in the city and did not travel to the beach resort. Our favorite friends Ravi and Ruks took us shopping. We wanted to go to an area where we could find handcrafted and authentic Indian items. They took us to a street market filled with various shops and street vendors. WOW. I felt like I was at a Black Friday event (times 1000!) - the crowd of people was overwhelming. Inside the stores, it was so crowded I couldnt even see the merchandise that was for sale. In addition, there was NO air conditioning inside. With 45% humidity..I was quickly drenched in sweat, uncomfortable and not doing well with the crowds.. so we didnt stay long. I did find some fun gifts that I cant wait to share with friends and family back home. Here is a video to give you more exposure to the experience
(actually its on Amy's camera! I will insert later :) )
That night Amy, Ravi, Ruks and I went to Marina Beach .. which is the second longest beach in the world. Again... so many people! I dont think I will ever again complain about somewhere in America being crowded. We played in the waves a little .. the water was very warm but rough... so I didnt do much more than just stick my feet in.
We were all sitting on the beach at sunset.. just talking and enjoying the view when I heard Ravi say.. "Oh no.." under his breath as a group of people aproached us. Suddenly they were in our face and demanding money.. they were aggressive and Ravi and Ruks were talking to them in Tamil.. so Amy and I had no idea what was going on. They kept touching us and "blessing" us with their hands. Ravi finally pulled out his wallet and gave them money. When they left Amy and I were confused and Ravi explained that they were transgenders. He also explained if you dont give them money they will expose themselves. That could have gotten really awkward.
Sunday night Amy and I had an "India Vegas Night" at the bar inside the hotel. We were both supposed to be in Vegas this weekend with friends .. and were feeling a little sad. To cheer ourselves up we had the DJ play American music all night and managed to have a lot of fun :) Not quite Vegas.. but we did well with what we were working with.
Quote of the night
Amy: "Ravi, you dont wanna see me drop it low"
Ravi: "Drop what low?"

ReplyDeleteHi juliet: I'm back. Now about those transgender folks. I might have not given them money just to see how good their surgeons were. ;-)
ReplyDeleteGreat pics and posts. Keep up the good work.
Well you're behind on your blogging girl. Go out with a big bang. Lots of pictures, etc.
