Meet the Class !

Here are a few pictures of our training class.. and Amy wearing a Sari. They were so excited to see her wear the traditional dress here in India. I wasnt as bold.

Most of the trainees...

We spent a Saturday morning playing Cricket. This was TEAM SWINGER!  Oh and you notice my doggie in front of Ruks? He promised me that he will take care of her when I leave :)

We nicknamed this group the Bad Boys!

The good boys!

Orphanage

Amy, Ruks and I spent the day at Udavum Karangal (Helping Hands) orphanage. I was so impressed with the facility. The grounds were very clean and nicely kept. We waited 2.5 hrs for the children to wake up from their rest so we could go in and play with them.

I expected it to be sad. But the children seemed genuinely happy and well taken care of. They were loved. :) The experience made my heart smile.

Radisson Temple Bay (again) and Shore Temple

Shore Temple is a popular tourist spot in Chennai. Check out the women and children trying to sell us stuff.. ABSOLUTE insanity.

Halfway Mark!

28 days down.. 23 days to go !  (I started this last week.. sorry didnt have a chance to finish until now)

I haven't blogged for awhile. I have some catching up to do...

The weekend of June 4th-5th we stayed in the city and did not travel to the beach resort. Our favorite friends Ravi and Ruks took us shopping. We wanted to go to an area where we could find handcrafted and authentic Indian items. They took us to a street market filled with various shops and street vendors. WOW. I felt like I was at a Black Friday event (times 1000!) - the crowd of people was overwhelming. Inside the stores, it was so crowded I couldnt even see the merchandise that was for sale. In addition, there was NO air conditioning inside. With 45% humidity..I was quickly drenched in sweat, uncomfortable and not doing well with the crowds.. so we didnt stay long. I did find some fun gifts that I cant wait to share with friends and family back home. Here is a video to give you more exposure to the experience

(actually its on Amy's camera! I will insert later :)  )

That night Amy, Ravi, Ruks and I went to Marina Beach .. which is the second longest beach in the world. Again... so many people! I dont think I will ever again complain about somewhere in America being crowded. We played in the waves a little .. the water was very warm but rough... so I didnt do much more than just stick my feet in.

We were all sitting on the beach at sunset.. just talking and enjoying the view when I heard Ravi say.. "Oh no.." under his breath as a group of people aproached us. Suddenly they were in our face and demanding money.. they were aggressive and Ravi and Ruks were talking to them in Tamil.. so Amy and I had no idea what was going on. They kept touching us and "blessing" us with their hands. Ravi finally pulled out his wallet and gave them money. When they left Amy and I were confused and Ravi explained that they were transgenders. He also explained if you dont give them money they will expose themselves. That could have gotten really awkward.

Sunday night Amy and I had an "India Vegas Night" at the bar inside the hotel. We were both supposed to be in Vegas this weekend with friends .. and were feeling a little sad. To cheer ourselves up we had the DJ play American music all night and managed to have a lot of fun :) Not quite Vegas.. but we did well with what we were working with.

Quote of the night

Amy:  "Ravi, you dont wanna see me drop it low"
 Ravi: "Drop what low?"

Friendships built through Hourglass!

This was the weekend we both were supposed to be in Vegas for a Bachelorette party... We went to the hotel bar on Sunday night.. shut our eyes and pretended it was Vegas. Good times!

Before work.. waiting for our driver

My doggie! Eating my leftover Pizza Hut :)

This is the tree Amy and I planted for World Environment Day. We will forever be rooted in India!

My doggie again. She remembers me now.. everytime she sees me she will come running. Too cute.

My favorite friends in India Ravi, Gopi, Ruks.
They take us to Pizza Hut every night :)

Ha.. we went for a ride :)

Things on a bike!

This album is dedicated to our favorite saying "Things on a bike!" See pics and captions below for further reference :)
Everyone in India rides a motorcylce/scotter. We are amazed at what they can carry while driving. This one was extra special. The keyboard and mouse was on the drivers lap in the front.

Ok.. not a bike.. but not uncommon to see a dozen or so people piled in the back of a truck

Too Many things on a bike! Got pulled over !

This is the city bus.. It is so crowded that people hang off the outside.

Training Room

Taught them who Snoopy was.. but they all thought Woodstock was a squirrel!

Asked for a trash can.. here it is ..

Fixing the air conditioner

Thumbs up - see the pile of wires to the left? Thats all the internet cable connections for the room

Remember how I said if he moves too far to the left we lose internet. See his concern?
